Integra Nutritionals PreBio RS is derived from green lady finger bananas. Green lady finger banana is a prebiotic plant material that has been well researched and found to be rich in naturally-occurring resistant starch, a food source for the microbiota which, in turn break down these starches to product SCFAs for the human host, known to be highly beneficial for intestinal health, in part because they are the preferred energy source for the cells lining the large intestine or colon.
PreBio RS is a prebiotic plant material rich in naturally-occurring resistant starch. Resistant starch is a food source for the microbiota which, in turn break down these starches to produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) for the human host.
Research on PreBio RS indicates:
- Significant butyrate-producer, incl. Faecalibacterium prausnitzii
- SCFAs from unripe banana are anti-inflammatory to gut epithelium
- Can counter potentially-mutagenic effect of red meat
- Low Glycaemic Index
- Improves insulin sensitivity independently of microbiota
- Decreases post-prandial glycaemic and insulin responses and may reduce adipose accumulation
- Possible anti-ulcerogenic effect
- The high amylose: amylopectic RS ratio enhances anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic cell signalling
The G.E.M.M. Protocol is a clinical strategy to prevent and treat acute and chronic disease at its cellular origins and aims to re-establish each patient’s unique gut ecology, by supporting the growth, development and diversity of the microbiota.
The gut is now widely considered to function as a metabolic organ which plays a primary role in human immunity. A major contributor is the close interrelationships among five key elements – the Intestinal Epithelium and its overlying mucous membranes (IEFC), its underlying Immune cells, the Gut microbiota, the Capillary bed and the Neural networks that enable communication from the gut to other body systems.
A key formulation of the G.E.M.M. protocol, FloraGenex is a unique multi-ingredient formulation which includes a range of prebiotic and other microbiota-friendly plant ingredients. Its uniqueness lies in its diverse range of prebiotics supported by an extract of Opuntia ficus indica (Prickly Pear cladode) to increase synthesis of gut-protective epithelial mucin. Substantial evidence exists for additional physiological benefit for higher doses of three of the FloraGenex ingredients; these are Beta-Glucan, Resistant Starch (PreBio RS) and Partially-Hydrolysed Guar Gum (PreBio PHGG). Such benefits apply equally to gastro-intestinal and cardiometabolic health.
Ingredients:
100% natural dried green non-GMO banana (Musa acuminata). Where PreBio RS is taken in addition to FloraGenex, the total daily resistant starch will total 17.5 grams (2.5 g from FloraGenex + 15g from PreBio RS)
The resistant starches and their resultant SCFAs are known to be highly-beneficial for intestinal health, in part because they are the preferred energy source for the cells lining the large intestine or colon.
SCFAs derived from unripe banana have been shown to exert an anti-inflammatory effect on the intestinal lining. SCFAs have also been found to enhance the gut barrier, strengthening the tight junctions between intestinal cells, protecting these cells against invasion from unwanted microbes and food chemicals.
Butyrate is one of the key SCFAs that has been well-researched, not only for its beneficial effects on human digestive function but also for its effects on helping to regulate blood glucose. It has also been shown to promote satiety and thereby help to limit excessive food intake.
